Lois Mae Willie was born on March 12, 1917, to Walter & Ethel (Stambach) Willie on a farm south of Frankfort, SD. As a young child less than two years old, she lost her Mother to the pandemic of 1918, which she had contracted herself. Her paternal grandparents stepped in to help raise Lois, who was given the nickname "Toots." When her father remarried and moved away, she would remain with her grandparents and enjoy a beautiful childhood. She would share the memories of her life in the many stories she told her family. She attended country school and graduated from Frankfort High School in 1936. On November 28, 1939, she married the love of her life, Stan Filipek, at St Martin's Catholic Church in Huron, SD.
Lois and Stan built a life on the farm south of Frankfort, where they raised their four children. Her life was filled with the duties of a farmer's wife and a loving Mother.
Lois cherished family and friends and instilled in her children the precious gift of family ties and dear friendships. Her faith illuminated through her ability to forgive and her deep faith in praying for others and her devotion to praying the rosary. Her beautiful smile greeted you when you saw her, and it was filled with the kindness she held.
Holding her memory close are her four children: Ron (Cindi) Filipek of Watertown, SD; Dan (Ruth) Filipek of Wickenburg, AZ; Rick Filipek of Redfield, SD; and Sally (Randy) Schwab, Redfield, SD; and grandchildren: Gina (Travis) Brist of Aberdeen, SD; Tiffany (Michael) Parker of Candler, NC; Clint (Amanda) Filipek of McClusky, ND; Casey (Audra) Filipek of Rapid City, SD; Farrah (Nathan) Flemming of Ft. Meade, SD; Heath (Melissa) Farmen of Foley, MN; Tanner Farmen; and Colby (Lindsey) Farmen, both of Sioux Falls, SD. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren: Abby Brist; Jeremy, Emily, and Justin Parker; Taylor, Haley, Emilie, Macie, and Cooper Filipek; Camden, Reese, and Kalia Flemming; Tobin and Piper Farmen; great-great-granddaughter Makadyn Brist; brother Robert (Darletta) Willie of Ralston, NE; and sister-in-law Ann Filipek Rapid City, SD; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Preceding Lois in death are her husband Stan Filipek in 2001; great-grandson Tyson Brist in 2018; daughter-in-law Ruth Filipek in 1967; brothers: Dennis, Ben, Marvin "Bud", and Ollie Willie; and sisters: Frances Trout and Virginia Anderson.
