Obituary

Jay Simpson, 68 of Redfield, SD died Monday, September 28, 2015 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen. His funeral will be Friday, October 2, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Redfield. Reverend Brian Wasmoen will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, from 3-7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. (www.thelenfuneralhome.com)

Louis Jay Simpson was born March 11, 1947 in Berryville, AR to James and Vedith (Curtis) Simpson. His family moved to Texas where he was raised and educated, graduating from Big Lake High School in 1965. Following graduation he joined the United States Air Force and honorably served his country as a military policeman in Turkey and at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Box Elder, SD. Jay was discharged in 1971. He married Linda Solheim in June of 1971, and together they made their home in Midland, TX and then Rapid City, SD. While in Rapid City he earned his bachelor's degree in Accounting and Business. In 1981 they moved to Redfield, SD where they lived until his death.

Jay was a tax auditor for the State of South Dakota for ten years and worked at Shawn Chase Ford here in Redfield as their Finance Manager and Salesman. Jay was a member of the Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Redfield, the Clay Kaiser American Legion Post #92 where he was their finance manager for many years.

Jay is survived by his wife, Linda of Redfield; his two daughters: Sarah (Greg) Hier of Lima, OH, and Erin Wik and her daughter Callie of Sioux Falls, SD. He is also survived by his brother Glen (Betty) Simpson of Midland, TX, his twin sister Fay (Loren) Robinson of Kingsland, TX; his father in-law, John Solheim of Redfield, SD and a sister in-law Pam Solheim of Mesa, AZ.

Jay was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Shorty and three sisters: Mary Robinson, Marie Singleton and Betty Zoller.
