Obituary

Lowell W. Styles, 88, of Brentford, SD died Wednesday, May 11, 2011 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield.

His funeral will be Saturday, May 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brentford United Church of Christ. Reverend Jon Damaska will officiate.

Burial will be in the Plainview Cemetery with military rites.

Visitation will be Friday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service and Masonic Rites service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home. The family will be present from 6-8:00 p.m. (www.thelenfuneralhome.com)

Lowell William Styles was born June 13, 1922, at a rural Brentford home to Arnold and Marie Styles. He graduated from Brentford High School and served in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theatre for which he was awarded the Purple Heart and oak leaf cluster, the infantry combat badge, five bronze battle stars and the combat medical badge.


On August 18, 1941 Lowell married Myrtle A. Trapp in Aberdeen. Three children were born to this union. They lived all their lives in the Brentford area where they farmed and raised registered Angus cattle. He was a Past President of the SD Flying Farmers, a Master Mason and past Master, a Shriner, a lifetime member of the Legion and VFW, Past Commander of the Legion Post #242 of Brentford, a member of VFW Post #2755 of Redfield since 1938, a member of the Brentford Congregational United Church of Christ and past deacon, and a former member of the Spink County Planning Commission.


Survivors include one daughter: Judy (Mike) Stahly of Cavour; one son: Bob (Lucy) Styles of Brentford, and Lucy's sister Esther (Greg) Preszler of Roscoe; five grandchildren: Doug (Chris) Stahly of Cavour, Becky (Dave) Brooker of Tulare, Laura (Doug) Braun of Mellette, Tina (Mike) Birgen of Aberdeen, and Chris (Erica) Styles of Brentford; eleven great grandchildren: Spencer, Mason and Nolan Stahly, Wyatt and Andrew Brooker, Allison and Tyler Braun, Breanna and Brittany Birgen, and Madison and Sawyer Styles; and one brother: Rayford Styles of Fredonia WI.


He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, one infant son Roger, and one brother Berwyn Styles.
