Lucille Rose Brindley, 92, of Le Center, MN, passed away Monday, August 22, 2016 at Central Health Care in Le Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield. Father Dan Smith will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. A prayer service and rosary will follow at 5:00 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home. (www.thelen-hykefuneralhome.com)
Lucille Rose Appel was born on August 13, 1924 in Spink County, SD, one of ten children of Simon and Bertha (Ecker) Appel. She was raised and educated in Spink County, graduating from Redfield High School in 1945. She lived with her family on the family farm near Cottonwood Lake in Spink County. When she was eighteen years old, she moved to Hollywood and did some modeling. She also waitressed at the 5:30 Club next to the Brown Derby, was film cutter at MGM and waitressed on Sunset Strip. She was one of "Rosie the Riveters" and riveted bombers together during WWII. She returned to South Dakota and married Paul Brindley in 1948. Together they moved around the area before settling in Redfield. Paul and Lucille owned and operated the Brindley Clothing Store in Highmore, SD, before moving to Redfield in 1966, where they owned the "Bargain World" clothing store and the "Bottle Shop" for 14 years. Lucille was a people person and loved spending time with friends and family. She could be found at One Stop every afternoon at 3:00 p.m. having coffee with friends. She will be remembered by many for her infectious smile and laugh. Paul died on August 28, 1987, she continued to live in Redfield until she moved to Minnesota in December of 2014, to be close to her daughter. She celebrated her 92nd birthday with family and friends at Central Health Care in Le Center, MN where she will be missed by all.
Lucille is survived by a daughter Patti (Bruce) Zuelch of Cleveland, MN; and a son Joe Brindley of Minneapolis, MN; five granddaughters and two grandsons. She is also survived by her brother Roger (Barb) Appel of Redfield and a sister Maxine (Cletus) Stemper of Zell, along with several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter Cheryl Lee and a son Scott; two brothers Walter and Ed Appel and five sisters: Marian Thiel, Bernice Walz, Nellie Lutter, Doris Kirrin and Margaret Haider.
