Obituary

Lucille Thomas, 91, of Redfield, SD, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Eastern Star Home in Redfield. Her funeral will be Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at First Congregational-UCC Church in Redfield. Reverend Tim Fugman will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1-8:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Lucille was born December 18, 1919 on the family farm near Tulare, SD to William and Anna (Miller) Wagner. She grew up on the farm and attended country school. She was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church west of Tulare. Lucille married Clifford Thomas on September 30, 1941 in Redfield. They farmed in the Rockham-Zell-Tulare areas until they moved into Redfield in 1982. Clifford passed away in 1986 and Lucille continued to live at home until she moved to the Eastern Star Home in 1998.

She was a member of the Wheaton Church and the First
Congregational-UCC Church.

She enjoyed cooking, baking and gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

Lucille is survived by her daughter Pam Schmidt of Redfield; her daughter-in-law Donna Thomas of Redfield; six grandchildren: Dustin (Dawn) Schmidt, Loyal (Jen) Schmidt, Paul (Della) Whitley, Jay (Dawn) Whitley, Wade (Beth) Thomas and Travis Thomas. She is also survived by her eleven great grandchildren and two sisters-in-law: Evelyn Wagner and Diane Thomas. Lucille spent thirteen years at the Eastern Star Home and considered all the staff part of her family and was always pleased with the great care she received.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Clifford, her son Terry, her infant son Clifford, her son-in-law Russel "Buzzy" Schmidt, her sister Evelyn in childhood and her brothers: Herb, Leonard, Willis and Virgil.
