Mabel E. Morgan, 80, of Redfield, SD died Wednesday at Select Specialty Hospital in Sioux Falls. Her funeral will be Monday, November 19, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Redfield. Reverend Brian Wasmoen will officiate. After the funeral service, Mabel will be cremated and her ashes will be buried in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will be Sunday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Mabel was born February 9, 1927 in rural Turton, SD to John and Clara (Veatch) Rahm.
She grew up in the Turton area and graduated from Brentford High School. She lived for a short time in Denver, CO before moving to Redfield. Mabel married Russell Morgan February 6, 1949 in Redfield. Mabel stayed at home with her children as they were growing up. Mabel and Russell operated a sandwich and bait shop on Twin Lakes for several years. She worked at the Greenhouse for many years and later for SDDC-Redfield in the kitchen. After her retirement she was a foster grandparent for sixteen years at Rainbow Daycare.
Mabel joined Paul A. Schleher VFW Post #2755 Auxiliary in February 1976. She served in all offices of the Auxiliary, serving as President for ten years. She was also VFW Auxiliary District #6 Past President. She was currently serving as Patriotic Instructor for District# 6. She also was a member of the Clay Kiser American Legion Post #92 Auxiliary since 1980.
Mabel is survived by four sons David (Carol) Morgan of Huron, Greg (Linda) Morgan of Henderson, KY; Jeff Morgan of Mission Viejo, CA; Carl (Lois) Morgan of Ventura, CA; and two daughters: Beret Bengtson of Mission Viejo, CA and Julia (Terry) Jones of Lennox, SD. Mabel is also survived by ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and four brothers: John, Clayton, Ernie and Roger Rahm.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Russell in 1979 and her sister Mary Ann Rahm.
