Manley "Bud" Miller, 93, of Redfield, SD, died Thursday, June 18, 2009 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, SD.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield.
Pastor Brian Wasmoen will officiate.
Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, 1-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Manley Merrit "Bud" was born February 22, 1916 near Tulare, SD to Archie and Isabelle (Curry) Miller. He attended country school near his home in Tulare. After completing 8th grade, Bud quit school to work on the farm. Bud married Lillian Mae Lake at Redfield, together they had three sons. He entered the United States Navy in 1944, being honorably discharged in 1945. He returned to the Redfield area and started working on a road construction crew. On April 6, 1948, Bud married Irene Hutchinson in Aberdeen, SD. Together, they continued to travel while he worked road construction. Bud later returned to work for Spink County as a road grader driver and then he became a foreman for the City of Redfield as the City Street Foreman. Bud retired from the city in 1979. He and Irene traveled south for the winters to St. George, UT to spend time with Irene's daughter.
Bud had a strong interest in mechanics and loved to work on almost anything, from small vehicles to large trucks. He truly loved hunting and spending time with his many dogs.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Irene; her daughter Shirley (Elson) Hyatt of St. George, UT and a son Darrell (Ida) Miller of Ridgefield, WA; eleven grandchildren, several great and great-great grandchildren.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, two sons: Doyle and Darvin; one brother Allen; six sisters: Mary, Blanche, Leitha, Opal, Maxine and Bernice; and two grandchildren.
