Obituary

On Sunday, March 10, 2024, Marilyn Darleen Newman, loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield, South Dakota.  She was born May 31, 1929, to Hervie and Daisy Watson in Redfield, where she lived her entire life.  She married Junior Newman on June 11, 1948.

Marilyn graduated from Redfield High School in 1947 and started work at N.W. Bell Telephone and Northwestern Public Service.  Marilyn worked at Rude Transportation for 20 years.

After Junior and Marilyn retired, they went to Lake Havasu, Arizona, for 13 years.

Marilyn belonged to the Jaycettes, Extension Club, Eastern Star, Circle, and the United Methodist Church.  She loved to play bridge in several bridge clubs.

Marilyn was predeceased by her husband, Junior Newman, her daughter-in-law, Barb Newman, and her sister and four brothers.

She is survived by her sons, Terry (Barb) of Aberdeen, South Dakota, and Rick of Pierre, South Dakota; her grandchildren, Caitlin (Chris) Podoll, Tyler (Tevan) Newman, Jocelyn (Marcus) Frohm, Brendan (Andrea) Newman; and her great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Ella, Mason, Tennyson, and Noah.  She is also survived by one special niece, Belva Dobratz.

Marilyn's memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 22, at the Redfield Methodist Church with Pastor Melissa Rowenhorst officiating.  Lunch and fellowship will follow the service in the church hall.
