Obituary

Marion I. Walton, 88, of Redfield, SD, died Wednesday, February 28, 2007, at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield, SD. Her funeral will be Monday, March 5, 2007, at 2:00 P.M. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield, with Reverend Stephen Perry officiating. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 2 to 8 P.M. at Thelen Funeral Home.

Marion Irene (Janes) Walton was born April 10, 1918, in Hand County to P.R. (Ray) Janes and Lettie (Travis) Janes. She graduated from Rockham High School. After graduating, she worked in the Hand County Superintendent of Schools Office. Marion married Wayne Walton on March 6, 1941 in Miller, SD. They lived in the Rockham area until 1961, when they moved to Redfield. She was employed at the Redfield State Hospital and School until retirement. She was a member of the Redfield United Methodist Church and was active in the United Methodist Women. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed working in her follower gardens. Marion had resided at Lakeside Assisted Living since August of 2003 and moved to the Eastern Star Home in January of 2007.

Marion is survived by three children: Wendell (Linda) Walton of Bloomington, MN; Jane (Franz) Cartner of Redfield, and Paul (Loree) Walton of Hull, IA; by eight grandchildren: Tanya (Mark) West, Darin (Carol) Walton, Richard Cartner, Robert (Tiffany) Cartner, Heather Walton, Beth (Shaun) Kelderman, Tara Walton and Stefanie Walton and five great grandchildren: Tristan and Dawson West, Marcus, Rylee and Ashtyn Kelderman. She is also survived by her sisters in-law: Carrie Janes of Redfield and Ruth Hurd of Washington. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Leonard, sisters Dorothy Heber and Bessie Wharton and a granddaughter, Alison Walton.

Casketbearers will be Richard Cartner, Robert Cartner, Darin Walton, Mark West, Shaun Kelderman and Randy Joyce.

Music will be provided by Lynn Munce-Flint, Dale Fiedler and Clark Lunstrum
