Marlene Beverly (Friese) Penfold, 84, of Roscoe, SD and formerly of Redfield, SD, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2020, at Sanford Medical Center in Aberdeen, SD.  Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield.  Reverend Brian Wasmoen will officiate.  Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield.

Visitation will be Monday, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Hyke Funeral Home.  Family will be present at 6:00 p.m. to accept condolences.  A prayer service and time of sharing will begin at 7:00 p.m.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home.  (www.hykefuneralhome.com)

Marlene Beverly Friese was born May 9, 1935, in Redfield, SD, to Walt and Alice (Anderson) Friese.  On September 3, 1952, she was united in marriage to John Sheridan in Redfield.

She worked as a waitress outside the home, but her passion was being a ham radio operator.  In fact, her ham radio led her to England where she spent 10 years.  Marlene also enjoyed watching several TV programs, collecting dolls and money, and crocheting.  She loved dirt track racing as well as NASCAR racing and her favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt Jr.  She treasured the special times with family at the racetracks and motorcycle trips with her husband.  Her family fondly remembers Marlene as an amazing cook who was also very outgoing and just a little stubborn.

Grateful for sharing her life are her children:  Verdelle (Sue) Sheridan of Winter Haven, FL; Marilyn (Mike) Johnson of Aberdeen, SD; Nancy (Stan) Mikolajczyk of Pawtucket, RI; Kevin Sheridan of Sioux City, IA; Floyd (Di) Sheridan of Baltic, SD; Corey (Kathy) Sheridan of Dunnellon, FL; Sharla Sheridan of Roscoe, SD; Ferlin (Brenda) Sheridan of Aberdeen, SD; and DaNelle Sheridan of Beverly Hills, CA.  She is also survived by 25 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; brother Garrold (Charlotte) Friese of Watertown, SD; and sister Darolyn (Lloyd) Kineard of Purcell, OK.

Marlene was preceded in death by her parents, husbands John Sheridan and Roy Penfold; daughter Barbara; son Sheldon; brother Eldeen Friese and sister Vi Trowbridge.
