Marlin Fred Flint, 98, of Redfield, SD, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield.

His services will be held on Friday, July 31, 2026. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Redfield Methodist Church. His funeral service, with Masonic Rites, will start at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Melissa Rowenhorst officiating. Burial, with Military Honors, will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Refreshments and fellowship will take place after the burial in the church hall.

Marlin was born June 9, 1928, in Redfield, to Fred Abner and Beryl Dorothy (Kegler) Flint. He spent his childhood through high school in Redfield, graduating in 1946. He enlisted in the United States Marine Air Corps in 1946 and, in 1948, joined the U.S.M.C. Reserves and attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, SD.

On August 13, 1950, he married Elsie Mae Tays in Gettysburg, SD. Shortly after, he was recalled to the U.S.M.C. for the Korean situation and was honorably discharged in 1952. He returned home to join the family business, Flint Sales and Service. In 1965, he assumed ownership when his father retired. He retired when the store closed in 1992.

He and Elsie Mae had five children – Mark, Danon, Eric, Joel, and Lisa. Elsie Mae passed on February 8, 1994.

He was active in many organizations – Jaycees, Toastmasters Club, Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, and the Yelduz Shrine Chanters, singing for almost 50 years (which he was most proud of). Marlin became a Lions Charter Member on January 23, 1958. He remained an active member of the Methodist Church since his confirmation in 1940, and was chairman of the building committee for the current church.

On January 2, 1996, he married a lovely lady, Lynette “Lyn” Kay Schlagel Munce, in Redfield, gaining her four stepchildren.

Marlin is survived by his loving wife, Lyn, of Redfield; his children: Mark (Nancy) Flint of Grand Forks, ND, Eric (Lisa) Flint of Rapid City, SD, Joel Flint of Phoenix, AZ, and Lisa (Bud) Oleson of Hill City, SD. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his first wife and their daughter Danon, a brother Keith in childhood, and numerous aunts and uncles.
