Martin was born in Miller, SD, on December 13, 1937, to Anton and Freda (Weiss) Flottmeyer.
He graduated from Polo High School on August 19, 1955. He married Marie Levtzow. To this union, they were blessed with four children. He spent much of his adult life in Rockham, Sioux Falls, and Redfield, SD. Though he struggled with alcoholism in his early years, he was incredibly proud of his more than 40 years of sobriety. A devoted member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, his faith remained a cornerstone of his life.
While living in Sioux Falls, he enjoyed doing snow plowing for five neighbors. He loved animals and always had a dog to love.
He is survived by his wife Marie and children: Kevin (Susan) Flottmeyer of Pierre, SD, Ron Flottmeyer (Cindy Brink) of Watertown, SD, Martia (Kevin) Siebrecht of Redfield, and Mel (Brenda) Flottmeyer of Piedmont, SD. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Justin (Melissa), Jesse (Whitney), Janelle (Tyson), Joanie (Chase), Shawn (Bryan), Ross, Randy, Madyson, Kayla (Dan), and Mark (Rhonda); great-grandchildren: Devon, McKenzie, Ava, Natalie, Ivy, Preston, Caden, Jase, Connor, Garret, Isaac, Allie, Kai, and Lena; and great-great-grandchild Teagan.
