Martin Harms, 90, of Redfield, SD, died Tuesday, November 13, 2007 at Golden Living Center in Redfield.
His funeral will be Friday, November 16, 2007 at 2:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Redfield. Reverend Brian Wasmoen will officiate.
Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield.
Martin was born March 8, 1917 in Crandon, SD to George and Rosa (Schroeder) Harms Sr. He attended Crandon Grade School and graduated from Tulare High School in 1936.
Martin married Thelma Swope on March 29, 1940. They farmed southeast of Redfield until 1969 when they moved into Redfield. Martin and Thelma spent the winters in Mesa, AZ for over thirty years.
Martin enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, ceramics, ballroom and square dancing. He was a life-long member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. In 1998, Martin and Thelma traveled to Europe researching much of the family history.
Martin is survived by his wife Thelma Harms of Redfield; one son Doyle (Mickey) Harms of Redfield and their children: Stacey (Jason) Banister, Trisha (Chad) Bergjord, Lenae Harms and Jenna Harms; three daughters: Karen (Jim) Cooper of Sundance, WY and their children: Jay (Gloria) Cooper, Monica Switzer and Veronica (John) Widdoss; Devonna (Milton) Newman of Mina, SD and their children: Marty (Karla) Newman, Marlin (Marilyn) Newman, Mark (Sharon Bremer) Newman, Darcy (Scott) McCloud and Danene (Wes) Frankenstein; and Annabel (Jay) Lange of Andover, MN and their children: Corey and Kayla Lange; twenty-nine great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters: Charlotte Alberts of Redfield; Martha Stellmacher of Hitchcock, SD and Mabel (Chester) Meyer of Racine, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: George Jr, Elmer and Chris in infancy, one sister Ruby Kopplin and his granddaughter Lori Newlin.
