Obituary

Marvin C. Marlette, 80, of Redfield, SD, died Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield. Father Christopher Hughes will officiate. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Friday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Marvin was born January 20, 1934 in Redfield to Charles and Edwina (Hagan) Marlette. He grew up in Redfield and graduated from Redfield High School. Marvin served in the United States National Guard for over forty-one years, retiring in 1994. He married Bernadine Pfister on May 7, 1955 in Redfield. They lived west of Redfield where Marvin raised cattle. Some of those cattle were butchered by Marvin and made into Marv's meat for his family.

Marvin and Bernadine attended all of their kid's sporting events and most of their grandchildren's events. He enjoyed hunting, especially when the whole family got together.

Marvin is survived by his wife Bernadine of Redfield, four sons: Ricky (Patricia) of Evergreen, CO; Bill (Jan) of Sioux Falls, SD; Steve (Janet Lee) of Honolulu, HI and Randy (Jodi) of Olathe, KS; ten grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers: Gerald (Joan) of Redfield and Donnie (Rita) of Sioux Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Doris Rohlfs.
