Mary was born August 17, 1931 in Huron to Henry and Julia (Mulcrone) Falconer. She grew up with her sister in DeSmet, SD and attended DeSmet High School, where she was class president and graduated in 1949. She attended Mount Marty College in Yankton, SD, graduating with a degree in Medical Technology. After touring with a youth group to France, Italy and Switzerland, via ship, train and bicycle, she returned to Yankton. Mary married Dr. Sterling Berg on February 5, 1955 and they moved to Tyndall, SD. Mary and Sterling had seven children and they enjoyed boating on the Missouri River near Springfield and Yankton. In 1963, they moved to Scotland, SD and in 1972, to Redfield where they raised their family.

Mary was active in the church and community. She was an active member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church where she taught CCD for many years. She belonged to Literary Guild, PEO, Altar Society and the Red Hat Society. She was a substitute teacher's aide at Redfield Public School and worked part-time for several years at a local clothing store.

Mary loved to travel, whether it be by bicycle, boat, bus (converted camper) or motor home. She enjoyed band concerts, parades, flowers and boat rides. Mary enjoyed life; she liked people in general and dearly loved her family. She was known for her friendliness, her delightful sense of humor and her entertaining and amusing storytelling. Mary is a treasure who will be dearly missed.

Mary will be lovingly remembered by her husband Sterling of Redfield; her seven children: Mike (Vicki) Berg of Roswell, NM; Julie (Patrick) Jungwirth of Redfield, SD; Kathleen (Mike) Lynch of Vermillion, SD; Ken (Clara) Berg of Lodi, CA; John (Mena) Berg of DeSmet, SD; Marcie (Jeff) Peterson of Watertown, SD; and Richard Berg of Aurelia, IA. She is also survived by her sister Kathy (Jim) Myers of Austin, TX; eighteen grandchildren, one great grandson and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
