Mary Jane Leifsen, 89, of Redfield, SD, died August 30, 2007 at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield.
Her memorial service will be Saturday, September 8, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate.
Mary Jane was born April 4, 1918 in Redfield to William and Emma (Ochsle) Compton. She grew up in Redfield and graduated from Redfield High School. She attended beauty school in Milwaukke, WI where she met Anker A. Leifsen. They were married January 27, 1940 in Davenport, IA. While Anker worked for the railroad they traveled all over the United States. They settled in Redfield and Mary Jane started the Redfield Beauty Shop. She later worked at South Dakota Developmental Center-Redfield in the beauty shop. After Mary Jane and Anker retired they made their home on Cottonwood Lake.
Mary Jane was a member of the Eastern Star.
She enjoyed knitting, fishing, camping, cooking and her cats.
Mary Jane is survived by her son Anker K. (Lori Ortbahn) Leifsen of Cottonwood Lake, SD; three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters: Phyllis (Ken) Pribble, Shirley (Art) Solheim, Ada Rae Christman, William (Kathy) Compton, Robert Compton, Ruth Schroeder and Alice Carr.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Anker on April 16, 2007 and one sister Betty.
