Mary Ann "Marie" Zens, 91, of Redfield, died Friday, January 19, 2007, at Eastern Star Home in Redfield, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Zell, with Fr. William Osborn officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 2-8:00 p.m. on Monday, at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield, with a rosary at 7:00 p.m.
Mary Ann "Marie" was born on May 31, 1915 to John and Mary (Schmidt) Staufer at Orient, SD. She was raised in Orient, SD and attended school in Tennis, SD. On October 18, 1933, she married Albert Zens. She belonged to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Zell and St. Bernard's in Redfield. She was a member of the Altar Society. She had lived at the Heartland apartments and the Eastern Star Home in Redfield.
Marie enjoyed crocheting afghans and doilies for her family and friends.
She is survived by five sons, Duaine, of Zell, Dean (Diann) of Redfield, Jerry of Zell, Albert Leo (Beatrice), Jamesville, NY, Dan (Deb) of St. Paul, MN; and four daughters, Kaylene (Charles) Moffenbier of Aberdeen, Audrey ( Robert) Bsharah of Rapid City, SD, Rita (Dan) Hardes of Aberdeen, Donna (Dick) Neary of Floodwood, MN; one sister Clara Carr of Aberdeen; her adopted families, Gene and Tootie Maher, and Eleanor and Phil Lewis; all her friends at Eastern Star, 23 grandchildren, 41 great grandchildren, 3 step great grandchildren, 14 great-great grandchildren.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Albert, brothers Ed, Frank, Bud, Joe and Henry Staufer; sisters Anna, Agnes, Frances and Elizabeth; and one granddaughter and one grandson.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to be made Eastern Star.
