Mary L. (Mason-Betten) Mattinen, 81, of Sioux Falls, SD and formerly of Frankfort-Redfield area, died Saturday at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls. Mary Was cremated and her memorial service will be Friday, October 25th at 10:30 a.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate. Cremains burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. There will be a prayer service Thursday evening at 7:00 p.m. with the family present starting at 6:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Mary was born June 17, 1932 in Bonilla, SD to Oscar and Vergie (Lightner) Hurst. She attended Bonilla grade school and graduated from Frankfort High School. She married Daelyn Mason on September 15, 1951 and they lived and farmed in the Frankfort area. Mary worked for Harry's Egg Station and South Dakota Developmental Center-Redfield for several years. After Daelyn's death in 1975, she married Harry Bill Betten. They lived in Redfield and she enjoyed entertaining friends at the Clock Shop with Harry Bill. After his death in 1995, Mary traveled to Texas in the winters and married Rodney Mattinen in 2000 and they lived in Sioux Falls.
She enjoyed bowling, golfing, traveling, reading, crossword puzzles and especially spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Mary is survived by her husband Rodney Mattinen of Sioux Falls; two sons: Randy (Marilyn) Mason of Doland; Richard Mason of Huron, SD and her daughter Tammy (Tony) Peterson of Wolsey, SD; eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by her three sisters: Marjorie Frank of Sioux Falls; Helen (Clifford) Gascoinge of Huron; Dorothy Brandenburg of Sioux Falls; and her brother George Hurst of Sioux Falls and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, Daelyn and Harry Bill and her brother Charles Hurst
