Mary Angela Olding was born December 18, 1919, to Raymond and Lula (Cole) Olding, in Aberdeen, SD. She attended grade school and high school in Redfield and attended St. Luke's School of Nursing in Aberdeen, graduating as a registered nurse in 1941.
Mary married Carl G. Berg in 1946 in Burbank, CA. They returned and made their home in Redfield. Mary worked as a nurse at the Medical Arts Clinic of Dr. E. J. Perry until it closed in the early 1970's. Mary then went to work as a nurse at Redfield Developmental Center for many years until her retirement.
Mary was a member of St. Bernard's Parish and altar society, Catholic Daughters of America, Gray Ladies and American Legion Auxiliary. She volunteered at Golden Living Center, Lakeside Assisted Living and as a nurse for Special Olympics for many years.
Mary enjoyed spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren. She was well known for her cooking and baking. The smell of her homemade rolls, breads and cookies filled the house. She also enjoyed planting flowers.
Mary lived across the street from St. Bernard's Catholic Church and she enjoyed cooking for the priests on Saturdays. When there was a visiting priest, they would always ask, "Is Mary Cooking".
Mary is survived by her two sons: Thom (Connie) Berg of Aberdeen; and Bruce (Julie) Berg of Redfield. She was proud grandma to Nena, Seth, Evan, Leah, Jessie, Hailey, Kasey and Tiffany, as well as her ten great grandkids.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl in 1978 and three brothers: Tommy, Raymond and A.I. Olding and her grandson Evan Berg.
