Mary Kay Waldner, 72, of Redfield, SD, died Monday, July 20, 2015 at Golden Living Center in Redfield. Mary Kay was cremated and her Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield. Father Gregg Frankman will celebrate the mass. Burial of ashes will be at a later date. A time for lunch and fellowship will follow the church service. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Mary Kay was born December 6, 1942 in Yankton, SD to Vernon W. "Bud" and Ruth F. (Johnson) Smith. She attended school in Yankton and married Salomo Waldner. To this marriage,six children were born. Mary Kay worked at South Dakota Developmental Center-Redfield for many years along with babysitting several children at Snow's Trailer Court. She also worked at Community Memorial Hospital for many years. Salomo died in 1984 and Mary Kay traveled for many years with her partner, Delbert Stotz. They spent many winters in Mission, TX.
Mary Kay is survived by her partner of thirty years, Delbert Stotz of Redfield, her children: Roger (Dawn) Waldner of Redfield and Robert (Kim) Waldner of Dexter, MO; her daughter-in-law Julie Waldner of Aberdeen. Her grandchildren: William Jr. (Ramy), Melissa (Richard Carey), Sarah, Dustin (Traci Samelson), Dana (Nathan Buer), Randall (Stephanie Binger), Rachel, Danielle, Amber (Adrian Coulter) Mattern, Samantha (Justin Koechner), Brittney,Trevor, MaKayla and Travis. Her great grandchildren: Tyler (Deidra Iron Hawk) Waldner, Michelle Waldner, Jackson Waldner, JoJo Carey, Harley Gascoigne, Weston Waldner, Adrianna Coulter, Roxie Waldner, baby girl Buer due in September and baby Waldner due in November.
Mary Kay is also survived by her sister Joyce (Howard) Combs of Yankton.
She was preceded in death by her husband, four of her children: William in 2009, David in 1985, Joseph in 1983 and Jon in 1980, her grandson Jose Waldner in 2003, her great grandson Antonio Waldner in 2006, her brother Paul Smith, her parents and her step mother Marie.
