Obituary

Mavis Earlene Rose, 83, Redfield, SD, died Friday, March 27, 2015, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield.

Her funeral will be Monday March 30, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at First Congregational UCC Church. Reverend Tim Fugman will officiate. Burial will be in the Cresbard Cemetery.

Mavis (Steiner) Rose was born to John and Dora (Thompson) Steiner at the family home in Cresbard, SD on March 6, 1932. Mavis attended school through her sophomore year. She married Francis Rose on April 16, 1948 and they made their home in Cresbard, SD. Together they lived in Montana, Minnesota, and South Dakota before settling in Redfield. Mavis resided at the Golden Living Center until the time of her death. She held various jobs, the longest being at Red Owl in Redfield, SD. She was also a popular bartender at the Legion and VFW in Redfield. Her best and favorite job was being a mother to her six children.

Mavis enjoyed playing Bingo, Blitz, Dominoes and loved having her fingernails done. She enjoyed visits from friends and family. Mavis was an Elvis fanatic and was seldom seen without her Three Musketeers and Coke! She was a member of the American Legion Auxillary.

Mavis is survived by her six children: Gerri (Bob) Schutte, of Redfield, SD, Maxine (Phillip) Rogers of Stratton, CO, Wayne (Deb) Rose of Redfield, SD, Jeff (Nancy) Rose of Redfield, SD, Lonnie Rose of Minneapolis, MN, and Roger (Janna) Rose of Huron, SD. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren: Karl (Sara) Schutte, Daryl (Tracy) Schutte, Kim Schutte, Paula (Corey) Carlson, Rick (Tonya) Wernsmann, Nathan (Hope) Rose, Christen (David) Bult, Jessica (Martin) Avery, Ian (Karen) Rose, Desirae Rose, Hunter Rose, Kiara O'Daniel, and Tristen O'Daniel. She also had 22 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her twin sister Avis Meyer, Faulkton, SD and sisters-in-law Dorothy Steiner and June Rose.

Mavis was preceded in death by her husband in 1986 and her siblings Elmer Steiner, Alberta Koskovich, Phyllis Richards, Rose Grau, Jack Steiner and an infant daughter.
