Obituary

Maxine Gladyce Beardemphl, 88, of Redfield, SD died Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Her funeral will be Saturday, September 6, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate. Burial will be in the Ashton Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1-8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com The family prefers memorials directed to the American Cancer Society.

Maxine was born January 3, 1920 in Tulare, SD to Ernest and Clara (Hardie) Schmidt. She grew up in the Tulare area and graduated from Tulare High School in 1937. She graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University, in 1939, with a degree in Education. Maxine and Floyd Beardemphl were married November 26, 1941 in Redfield. Maxine taught school for thirty years, first country school, then grade school at Ashton and later second grade at Northwestern until she retired in 1965. Maxine and Floyd lived on their farm near Ashton, until they retired, and moved into Ashton in 1976 and to Redfield in 2007.

Maxine was a member of American Legion Auxiliary, VFW Auxiliary, Ashton Ladies Aid.

She enjoyed playing bridge and cards of all kinds, needlework and mostly spending time with her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. After their retirement Floyd and Maxine enjoyed traveling and spending their winters in the southern states.

Maxine is survived by her husband Floyd of Redfield, three daughters: Joy Ann (Richard) Christoffer of Pierre, SD; Jeannie Kay Sparks of Indianapolis, IN; and Jo Lynn (Charles) Hahler of Ashton; five grandchildren: Todd (Brandi) Christoffer, Travis (Niki) Christoffer, Heather (Joe) Hilbert, Andrea (Tim) Brady and Adam (Jennifer) Hahler and ten great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters: Mildred Therkildsen of Huron, SD and Marvine (Paul) Roeber of Redfield; brother-in-law, Fred Case of Redfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Hazel Case and her brother Walter.

Casketbearers will be Todd and Travis Christoffer, Adam Hahler, Joe Hilbert and Tim Brady.
