Obituary

Maxine M. Mason, 98, of Redfield, SD, passed away Monday, May 1, 2017 at the Redfield Care and Rehabilitation Center in Redfield.  Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 5, 2017 at the United Methodist Church in Redfield.  Reverend Marty Toepke-Floyd will officiate.  Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Frankfort, SD.

Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m., at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield.  Family will be present beginning at 6:00 p.m. to accept condolences.   Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. (www.thelen-hykefuneralhome.com)

Maxine M. Mason was born October 11, 1918 to Lyman and Ethel (Wandell) Wetzbarger in Frankfort.  After her father's death in 1920, the family moved to Redfield.  Maxine attended school in Redfield and graduated from high school in 1937.

Maxine married Clair "Bud" Minnick on December 6, 1941.  They farmed northwest of Redfield for 20 years before moving into Redfield to make their home.  She was employed at the South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield for 22 years as a dental assistant and dorm supervisor.

Gardening, crocheting, fishing and bird watching were Maxine's favorite hobbies.  She also enjoyed spending time quilting at the church.

Mr. Minnick passed away on September 14, 1971.  She married Eugene Mason on April 30, 1976 and they continued to make their home in Redfield.  He passed away May 23, 1998.

Maxine is survived by her stepson, Zane (Brenda) Mason of Frankfort and two stepdaughters:  Marcia Mason-Wilson of Coalinga, CA and Linda (Jeff) Ripley of Clovis, CA.  She is also survived by eight step-grandchildren; several step-greatgrandchildren; special nephew and niece:  John Minnick and Cheryl Neff and many nieces and nephews.
