Melba Siebrecht, 89, of Redfield, SD, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Eastern Star Home in Redfield. Her funeral will be Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Visitation will be Friday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service and Eastern Star Service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. Melba was born February 23, 1924 in Turton, SD to Jurgen and Edith (Nystrom) Clausen. She graduated from Ashton High School in 1942 and Dakota Wesleyan, in Mitchell in 1945, with an education degree. She taught school in Clark and worked at the phone company in Redfield. Melba married Ernest Siebrecht on June 8, 1948. They lived and farmed in the Ashton/Redfield area until 1984 when they moved into Redfield. She also worked at James Valley Nursing Home and Coachman Supper Club.

Melba enjoyed baking and made awesome bread and chicken and biscuits. She enjoyed playing cards, embroidering, playing bingo and going to Leo's. Melba's pride and joy was her family and grandchildren.

She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Rebekahs, United Methodist Church and ladies circle.

Melba is survived by her children: Marvin (Jan) Siebrecht of Aberdeen; Roger Siebrecht of Redfield; Arlene Schwartzman of SeaTac, WA; Keith (Linda) Siebrecht of Redfield; Lois (Steve Cox) Siebrecht of Lynnwood, WA; Virginia (Steve) Zaloudek of Redfield; and Mary (Jay) Julson of Wahpeton, ND. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ernie in 2000, her sister Wilma MacDonald, her brother Melvin Clausen in 2013 and two brothers in infancy.
