Mo J
Green
February 3, 1919 – December 16, 2013
Mo J. Green, 94 of Redfield died December 16, 2013 at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield.
Mo's wishes were to have no formal funeral service. Graveside services with military rites will be at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield.
Mo was born on February 3, 1919 in Minneapolis, MN, one of six children born to Henry and Esther (Klugman) Green. He grew up in Appleton, MN and Aberdeen, SD. He served in the United States Army in Europe from February 1940 until the end of the war in 1945. Master Sergeant Mo J. Green served the cause of freedom gallantly during World War II. He was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in connection with military operations against an enemy of the United States. Mo was noted for his leadership among the troops and was a model for his fellow soldiers. His job of communication specialist made him one of the first to rush onto the beaches of Normandy in June, 1944. He fought in every major battle from France through Belgium and on into Germany. He was there to liberate the prisoners of Germany's Concentration Camps. Only in his later years did Mo begin to speak about his experiences of war. He was a quiet hero and a proud member of America's greatest generation. In receiving the Bronze Star, it was noted of Master Sergeant Green, "His display of outstanding leadership and initiative in the performance of his assigned duty is great. He displays a high sense of responsibility in all his undertakings. The appearance and conduct displayed by him has always been a model for other men to follow. His devotion to duty has been an inspiration to all".
Mo married Jacqueline Steinberg in 1946, and from that union they had a son Michael. On July 25, 1967, Mo married Connie Nye in Las Vegas, NV. They moved to Redfield, SD in 1969 and owned and operated Redfield Iron and Metal Company until they retired in 1991.
Mo is survived by his son Michael (Hue) and Connie's children: Robert (Joan) Nye of Kenyon, MN, Warren (Julie) Nye of Shelton, WA and Jane (Bill) Newton of Redfield, SD; and all of Connie's grand children and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Connie on July 30, 2013
