Mona Rae (Haag) Schultz, 85, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2022, at United Living Community in Brookings, SD. Her memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 5 th at Tulare United Church in Tulare, SD, with Reverend Hazel Behrens officiating. The service will be live-streamed to the funeral home's website, below Mona's obituary. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield, SD (www.hykefuneralhome.com). She will be laid to rest at a private burial at St. John's Cemetery in rural Tulare, SD.
Mona was born October 9, 1936, in Hitchcock, SD to Harold and Beryl (Shaw) Haag. She graduated from Tulare High School and attended Aberdeen School of Commerce. On August 28, 1955, she married Carroll Schultz at St. John's Church in rural Tulare.
Mona worked for Standard Oil Company in Huron, SD. She and Carroll farmed and ranched until 1982. During that time, she cooked at the school in Tulare. After moving to Rapid City, SD, Mona worked at Meadowbrook Manor. When they moved to Huron, she enjoyed her time working for Home Instead Senior Care.
She always put her family first. Mona was an excellent seamstress and a wonderful cook. She enjoyed camping, gardening, and crafting, including the special handmade bears she gave to her grandchildren.
Mona was a member of the Tulare United Church and American Legion Auxiliary.
Mona is survived by her loving husband, Carroll, of Brookings; and children: Daniel (Diane) Schultz of DeSmet, SD; Gayla (Jack) Wells of Brookings; and Dawna (Mark) VanOverschelde of Letcher, SD. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren (soon to be 16); and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Douglas; her sister, Lona; and her brothers, Gordy and Lynn.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to: Tulare United Church Parking Lot Project, PO Box 109, Tulare, SD 57476.
