September 25, 1922 – February 24, 2015
Myrtle M. Herold, 92, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Redfield, died Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls. Her funeral will be Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wesleyan Church in Redfield. Reverend Bob McHenry will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield.

Myrtle was born September 25, 1922 in Turton, SD to Felix and Emelia (Pardy) White. She attended grade school in Turton. In 1931, Myrtle and her family moved to Redfield and she attended Redfield High School. Myrtle married M. F. "Pete" Akin in 1943. To this union three children were born. Myrtle was a member of the Wesleyan Church. In 1965, Myrtle married Martin Lapke in Redfield. Myrtle worked as a nurse at South Dakota Developmental-Redfield, Community Memorial Hospital and James Valley Nursing Home. Myrtle and Wilbur Herold were married in 1978 and they lived in Redfield until 1996 when they moved to Sioux Falls. She continued to work as a LPN at Interim Healthcare for nine years.
Myrtle enjoyed baking, cooking, crafts and crocheting. Caring for the elderly and ill was one of her special gifts.
Myrtle is survived by her fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands: Pete Akin, Martin Lapke and Wilbur Herold in 2014, her children: James Akin in 2008, Hollie Leesch in 2006 and Marlene Ford in 1998 and her brothers: Elmer, George and Clarence White.
