Obituary

Myrtle A. Styles, 86, of Brentford, SD died Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield. Her funeral will be Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brentford United Church of Christ. Reverend Jon Damaska will officiate. Burial will be in the Plainview Cemetery near Brentford. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service and Eastern Star service at 7:00 p.m. with the family present starting at 6:00 p.m. all at Thelen Funeral Home. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Myrtle was born October 7, 1921, at a rural Conde home, to Charles and Minnie (Potts) Trapp. She attended rural schools for eight years and graduated from Brentford High School. She received a teaching certificate from Northern State Teacher's College in Aberdeen and taught school for four years.

Myrtle married Lowell W. Styles on August 18, 1941 in Aberdeen, SD. Three children were born to this union. Myrtle and Lowell lived all their lives in the Brentford area, where they farmed and ranched. She was an active member of the Brentford Congregational United Church of Christ since 1950 and the Women's Fellowship. She was a member and past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and held many state and local offices within the Star. Myrtle was very active in the Brentford American Legion Auxiliary where she held all the offices throughout the years. She was a Junior leader for many years and was the District 5 Legion Auxiliary President. She was also a past State Flying Farmer Queen, 4-H leader, school board member and a VFW Auxiliary member.

Myrtle is survived by her husband Lowell, one daughter Judy (Mike) Stahly of Cavour, SD; one son Bob (Lucy) Styles of Brentford, SD and Lucy's sister Esther (Greg) Preszler of Roscoe, SD; five grandchildren: Doug (Chris) Stahly of Cavour, Becky (Dave) Brooker of Tulare, SD, Laura (Doug) Braun of Mellette, SD, Tina (Mike) Birgen of Aberdeen, SD and Chris (Erica) Styles of Brentford; eleven great grandchildren: Spencer, Mason and Nolan Stahly, Wyatt and Andrew Brooker, Allison and Tyler Braun, Breanna and Brittany Birgen, and Madison and Sawyer Styles. Myrtle is also survived by one sister Doris (Don) Zimmerman of Glide, OR; one brother Lansford (Frances) Trapp Sr. of Brookings, SD and one sister-in-law Sarah Trapp of Atlanta, GA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant son Roger, her sister and brother-in-law Florence and Jim Forsyth and her brothers: Charles Trapp Jr. and Raymond Trapp.

Casketbearers will be Doug Stahly, Chris Styles, Doug Braun, Dave Brooker, Mike Birgen and Spencer Stahly. Honorary casketbearers will be all her close neighbors and friends, Brentford Auxiliary and Jr. Auxiliary members and the Eastern Star Home staff.
