Norman Dean Johnsen, 80, of Redfield, SD passed away Monday, August 22, 2016 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, SD. Norman has been cremated and his memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Pastor Lorah Houser Jankord will officiate. Norman was born November 24, 1935 in Ashton, SD to James and Eva (Jensen) Johnsen. He grew up on a farm south of Ashton and graduated from Redfield High School in 1954.

He married Vona Jean Harms on September 7, 1958 in Redfield. To this union, five children were born. Farming and various other jobs kept him occupied until retirement. His last two years were spent at Golden Living Center in Redfield.

Norman is survived by his children: Roxane (Bub) Wilhelm of Tulare, SD and their children Shandra, Stephanie and Jessica; Kevin (Julia) Johnsen of Redfield and their daughter Amber (Will) Traube; Kent Johnsen of Gillette, WY; Rob Johnsen of Aberdeen and his children Riley and Ramsey; Rustin (Janet) Johnsen of Huron, SD and their children Brett, Austin and Conner. He is also survived by five great grandchildren and his brother, Dick (Eleanor) Johnsen of Ridgecrest, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, his sister Linda O'Bray, his nephew Jamie Johnsen and his grandson Jeremy Johnsen.
