Obituary

Norman E. Sihrer, 75 of Redfield, SD, died on September 13, 2015 at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield, SD. Mass of Christian burial will be Thursday, September 17, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield. Fr. Gregg Frankman will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Zell, SD. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-7: 00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Norm attended grade school in Zell at the convent and high school at the Assumption Abbey in Richardton North Dakota. Norman met Christa Lohmaier while he was in the United States Army, stationed in Herzogenaurach, Germany. They were married on April 15, 1963. They lived in Germany until October, 1964 when they moved to Zell, SD and made their home on the family farm. Norm honorably served his country for over twenty five years, serving in the United States Army from 1959 until 1962, and then in the National Guard from 1976 until 1997.

Norm was well known for his hard work and dedication to his family. After Christa was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, he spent countless hours caring for her. He loved farming, gardening, working outside and watching wrestling. He spent countless hours working and volunteering within the community, taking care of Hava-Rest Campground and the city park. He served 30 years as a member of the Redfield City Council. Norm worked for SDDC-Redfield for over twenty years as a plumber.

He was an active member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Lion's Club and American Legion.

Norm is survived by his three daughters: Susan (Chris) Wilcox of Edgemont, SD and her children: Ian (Corinne) McCafferty of Porstmouth, NH; and Jen (Dustin) Otto of Tulare, SD; their children Ashlyn and Eastin; Cheryl Sihrer of Hamilton, MO and her son Andrew of Redfield, SD; and Christina Sihrer (Brent Swaney) of Miller, SD and her sons: Tyler and Lincoln. He is also survived by his sister Regina Kramer of Chandler, AZ and his brother John Sihrer of Granit City, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Christa in 2009, his brother Delbert and his brothers-in-law: Richard Kramer and Lorenz Lohmaier.
