Patricia "Pat" B. Haider, 85, of Redfield, SD, passed away in Sioux Falls, SD on Thursday, June 8, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Zell, SD. Reverend Gregory Frankman will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Zell.
Visitation will be Monday, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m., at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. A Scriptural Rosary Service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Family will be present to accept condolences beginning at 6:00 p.m. Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Pat was born in Conde, SD on March 23, 1932 to Virgil and Eva (Wettstein) Holm. She attended school in Conde before graduating from Orient High School in 1950. She married Leo Haider on March 28, 1951 in Orient. Six children were born to this union.
Pat enjoyed farm activities, raising lots of chickens, gardening and canning and freezing produce. She also loved collecting cook books and working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed computer games in her later years.
Pat worked at James Valley Nursing Center in Redfield for 19 years and enjoyed caring for the elderly.
After living on their farm at Zell for 47 years, Leo and Pat retired and moved into Redfield in 1997.
She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary as well as a member of the St. Mary's Altar Society in Zell and St. Bernard's Altar Society in Redfield.
Pat is survived by her children: Mary Saathoff of Estelline, SD; Steven Haider of Redfield; James (Peggy) Haider of Redfield; Jean (Jim) Esser of Redfield; John Haider of Redfield; and Sharol (Mike) Binger of Tulare, SD. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren; her brother, Charles (Maxine) Holm of Rapid City, SD; and her sisters: Margaret Moncur of Miller, SD and Shirley Jungwirth of Zell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo, in 2004; and her brothers-in-law: Wayne Moncur and Terry Jungwirth.
