Pauline D. Kohnen, 91, of Wessington, SD, died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Pauline was cremated and a private memorial service will be at a later date. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Pauline Doris Lawyer was born January 5, 1923 on a farm near Redfield to James and Alta (Sherwood) Lawyer. She graduated from Wessington High School in 1941. She attended Wessington Springs College and taught rural school in Nance and Buffalo Townships. Pauline married Martin Kohnen on November 22, 1945 in Redfield. They lived and farmed near Wessington all their married life.

She was a member of the Bonilla Presbyterian Church and Senior Citizens of Hitchcock.

She enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, embroidery, gardening and flowers.

Pauline is survived by her husband Martin of Wessington; three sons: Robert (Pam) Kohnen of Hitchcock; Larry (Kathy) Kohnen of Hitchcock; and James Kohnen of Aberdeen, SD; two daughters: Sharon (Larry) Koth of Wessington and Debra (Don) Germain of Wessington; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters: Iris Madison of Santa Rosa, CA and Virginia Martin of Fargo, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and four brothers-in-law.
