Pete Haider, 94, of Redfield, SD, died Saturday, March 31, 2007, at Manor Care Health Services in Aberdeen, SD.
A celebration of life and Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield. Fr.William Osborn will celebrate the mass. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 5:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. (www.thelenfuneralhome.com)
Peter William Haider was born August 18th, 1912, to John and Emma (Pittman) Haider at Zell. The family lived on a farm west of Zell. He was baptized and confirmed in Zell and attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Zell through the 8th grade.
He grew up working on the family farm. He also worked at CCCamp in the Black Hills building bridges, dams, roads, etc.
On November 9th, 1938, he married Margaret Appel at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield. After their marriage, the couple made their home and raised a family on a farm NW of Zell, where he enjoyed farming and raising his cattle. They lived there until he retired in 1973. They then made their home in Redfield where he worked for Darrel and Junior Rohlfs at Jockheck's for approximately ten years. He said it was the best job he ever had. He was an avid member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield.
Thankful for having shared in his life are his three children, Margie (Norman) Kobriger of Blanchard, OK, Willis (Marny) Haider of Redfield, SD, and Shirley (Wyatt) Johnson of Aberdeen, SD; five grandchildren, Dawn (Tim) Weelborg of Brookings, SD, Shawn (Jason) Even of Brookings, SD, Chad (Kari) Casey of Groton, SD, Ryan (Elsa) King of Aberdeen, SD, and Ashlee King of Aberdeen, SD; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three sisters, three brothers and one infant son.
