Obituary

Raymond McIntyre, 85, of rural Tulare, SD, died Sunday, August 31, 2014 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. His funeral will be Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Tulare United Church. Pastor Lorah Houser Jankord will officiate. Burial will be in the Tulare Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Raymond Roy McIntyre was born to Archie and Maude (Burke) McIntyre on a farm in the Tulare area on June 7, 1929. He attended school in Tulare, graduating from Tulare High School in 1947. He farmed with his dad and went south with the combiners a few years. Ray served in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed at Bitburg Air Base, Germany.

Ray married Ardyce Arneson on April 23, 1953 and they farmed southwest of Redfield for 61 years. Ray loved farming and raising Black Angus cattle. He served on the township board for 30 years, was a 4-H leader and held various offices in the Tulare Methodist Church. He was a 60 year member of the Tulare American Legion Post 0292 and Redfield VFW Post 2755. For many years he led the military honors at the Memorial Day program in Tulare. As a music lover, Ray sang in the men's quartet and in choirs at the Tulare churches. He attended his grandchildren's many musical programs and plays. He always had a special bond with animals and enjoyed the many farm cats, especially Thomas.

Ray is survived by his wife Ardyce, his children: Shari (Darrell) Phillips, Aberdeen; Roger (Helen) McIntyre, Redfield; Eric (Kris) McIntyre, Coon Rapids, MN; and Michael (Cheryl) McIntyre, Jamestown, ND. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, his sister Mae (Alvin) Scheffel, brother-in-law Arne (Pat) Arneson and sister-in-law Doreen Arneson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Hazel Radcliffe, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Wallace Arneson, Harvey and Florice Binger, Sharon Arneson and Amos Radcliffe.
