Richard Dean Anderson was born July 11, 1927 in Redfield to Homer and Gertrude (Schmidt) Anderson.  Dick worked on farms in the Redfield area and at the Hatchery in Redfield.  He entered the US Army in October of 1945, serving in the occupation of Japan and Korea at the end of WWII, before his honorable discharge in February 1947.

After serving in the military, he was employed by the Department of the Interior and the Department of Energy as a Supervisory Construction Inspector from 1947 until 1982.   Dick worked for an energy company and Miner and Miner Consulting Engineer Inc. in Greely, CO for a few years before returning to Redfield and doing handyman work for many years.

He married June Baker on June 3, 1950 in Redfield.  He was a member of the American Legion and was a life member of the VFW.   Dick enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a jack of many trades; clock maker, barb wire board creator, a box builder of all shapes and sizes. He was known by many titles, one being "Handy Andy".  He was a handy man, a window repair man and a jerry rigger of all times.  He loved to stay busy, puttering around in his garage, creating art out of various projects of all kinds.

Dick is survived by his wife of 66 years, June; his daughter Jeanie Tiff of Hot Springs, SD; his son Raymond Anderson of Rapid City, SD; and his two grandchildren: Vanah Maresh Anderson and Shania Anderson.
