Both the funeral service and committal service will be live-streamed through a link on the funeral home's website below Richard's obituary. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to the Redfield Methodist Church (1326 W 1st Street, Redfield, SD, 57469) or Eastern Star Home (PO Box 150, Redfield, SD, 57469).

Richard was born February 28, 1933, to Vernie and Mabel (Busch) Jackson in Redfield, SD. He was raised on the family farm, 3 miles southeast of Rockham in Plato Township, Hand County.  Dick attended Sunbeam and Rainbow Country Schools before he graduated from Redfield High School in 1951, where he lettered in boxing and was inducted into the National Honor Society.  A proud member of the Redfield Future Farmers of America (FFA), he was a Redfield delegate to the National FFA Congress in Kansas City.

In 1953, Dick enlisted in the Army, completing his Field Artillery basic and advanced training in sound ranging. He was preparing to enter Officer Candidate School when the death of his father called him home. He left active duty to help his mother farm and care for his five younger siblings, and, in 1955, he purchased the family farm.

Richard met Gwenneth "Gwen" Goldin at a dance at Armadale, and they were married on June 17, 1956, at the Scandinavia Lutheran Church near Stratford, SD.  Together, they built their life rooted in love and hard work on the Jackson Family Farm near Zell, SD, raising three sons: twins Korey & Kerry, and Kraig.

A man of deep faith and civic commitment, Dick was a devoted member of the Rockham United Methodist Church and the Rockham John Tomson Post 57 of the South Dakota American Legion (where he twice served as Post Commander).  Dick also served on the Rockham Elevator Board. He was Grand Master of the Masons Lodge in 1976, and marched proudly for many years with the Yelduz Shrine foot patrol.

Richard served on the Plato Township Board and the Hand County Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS). He and Gwen were also Hand County 4-H leaders, and supported Redfield's American Field Service Student exchange program, hosting several foreign exchange students in the 1970s.

In 2009, Dick and Gwen moved to Redfield, and joined the Redfield Methodist Church after the closure of the Rockham church.

Dick and Gwen shared a love of travel and learning, exploring Europe, Thailand, and South America, and visiting family and friends in the U.S. and Europe.

Dick was known for his tireless work ethic, his devotion to the land, and his quiet generosity. Through his involvement with the Masons and Shriners, he helped provide transportation for area children to receive care at Shriners Children's Hospitals—just one example of his enduring commitment to service.

Just this past June,  his beloved wife Gwen passed away. He was also preceded in death by his parents Vernie and Mabel; sisters: Verna Hoffman, Shirley Faust, Mabel Jackson; and brothers: Clifford Jackson, Herbert "Ole" Jackson, Douglas "Butch" Jackson, and Lyle Jackson.

Dick is survived by his three sons: Korey (Tana Holcomb), Kerry (Kim Galbraith), and Kraig (Jennifer Dangel); grandchildren Katrina, Matthew, Bethany, Thomas, Sarah; and one great-grandchild Charlotte; as well as his sisters: Karen Pflanz and Edith Maurene "Rene" (David) Kelnhofer; sister-in-law Kathy Jackson; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
