Richard was born on December 5, 1936, at the family home in Onaka, SD to Valentine and Rose (Goetz) Hoffart.  He attended school in Onaka, Loyalton, and Ipswich, SD.  He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1954 – 1957 and served in the Korean War.

Richard met and dated his true love, Eileen Tuscherer, early in life.  They were married on October 14, 1958.  In their 62 years of marriage, Richard farmed, was a salesman for John Deere, owned and operated Dick's Bootery.  He was also employed at the Redfield Development Center before his retirement in 2006.  During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his grandson and buddy, Garret, helping him with his mowing service.

His favorite things in life were spending time with his family especially the many memorable "Hoffart Family Reunions".  He enjoyed fishing at the Missouri River, playing cards, golf, pool, dancing, and having coffee with his friends.  He made many Easters special for all his grandchildren by playing the Easter Bunny.  He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, St. Bernard Catholic Church, and the Redfield Senior Center.

Richard will be missed by his wife Eileen of Redfield; children:  Roxanne Bell (Ronnie) of Caddo, OK; Karla Baus (Sean O'Brien) of Pierre, SD; Gene Hoffart (Laurel Viera) of Mankato, MN; and Penny Swanson (Kenny) of Redfield.  He is also survived by his grandchildren: Monica, Chasity, Amber, Brandi, Aaron, Tori, Erica, Aidan, Emily, Abby, Garret; several great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren and son-in-law, Brian Baus, Pierre, SD.  His surviving siblings include Virginia Collett, Donna Huber, Carol Androli, and Rosemary Martin.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Valentine and Rose and step-father, Gerald Ryman, grandson Nathon Baus, sister Lamoyle Heilman, and brothers, Larry, Sam and Jerry Ryman.
