Richard Warren Martsfield, 71, of Redfield formerly of Ashton, SD, died November 10, 2011, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield, SD. Richard was cremated and a memorial service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield, SD. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery with full military rites.(www.thelenfuneralhome.com)
Richard Warren Martsfield was born September 29, 1940, in the Baldwin Hospital in Redfield, S.D., to Merlin and Helen (Bishop) Martsfield. He attended Redfield School until joining the navy in 1957. Dick earned his high school diploma during his four years in the United States Navy. After his discharge, he worked in a garage in San Diego, CA until 1970. Dick then owned and operated two used car dealership until 1990. Due to his father's poor health he returned to South Dakota. After his father's death, he worked as a security guard and later a dorm parent at the South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield. In 1996, Richard married Melissa Harris. After her death in 2004, he retired, and enjoyed going hunting, fishing and eating out with friends. In 2011, Dick moved to the Eastern Star Apartments in Redfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. Richard is survived by his step daughter Tiffaney Harris, Wessington Springs, SD and her daughter Amber Harris, Minneapolis, MN, good friends Don and Joyce Welke and many other friends.
