Richard Dean Mason, 61, of Huron, SD, formerly of the Frankfort-Doland area, passed away Saturday, July 02, 2016 at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron. Richard was cremated and his memorial service will be Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Reverend Harold Loewen will officiate.

Private cremains burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield.

The family will be present to accept condolences during a visitation at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.(www.thelen-hykefuneralhome.com)

Richard Dean Mason was born January 17, 1955 in Redfield to Daelyn and Mary (Hurst) Mason. He was raised in the Doland/Frankfort area and graduated from Doland High School in 1973. Richard married Carol Dvorak of Redfield and to this union, a daughter, Melissa, was born. He later moved to Arizona where he resided with his wife, Helen. After several years, he moved back to Doland and married Dianne Gross.

Richard worked as a laborer in Clark, Aberdeen and Huron. Due to declining health, he entered an assisted living facility in Huron. In 2013, he became a resident at Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron where he was cared for until the time of his death.

He enjoyed fishing, TV, puzzles, reading, softball, dancing and spending time with his family. He was a wrestler in high school and was the first Doland wrestler to place at state. Richard's final act of kindness was to give the gift of life through organ/tissue donation.

Richard is survived by his brother: Randy (Marilyn) Mason of Watertown, SD, formerly of Doland, and their children: Audrey (Matt) Schuller, Ross (Melissa) Mason, and Jocelyn (Kyle) Schroeder; his sister: Tammy (Tony) Peterson of Wolsey, SD and their children: Collin Rainford, Chad (Kim Hofer) Rainford, Clint (Jeannie) Rainford, and Marty Peterson; his daughter, Melissa and her family of Texas. He is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Dianne.

Family will be present from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. to accept condolences.

Private family cremains burial.
