Richard "Skip" Boub, 85, of Redfield, SD, died Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at the Redfield Care and Rehabilitation Center in Redfield. His memorial service will be Monday, October 2, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Reverend Tammy Toepke-Floyd will officiate. Military honors will follow the service at the funeral home.
Visitation will be prior to the service on Monday, October 2, 2017, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home. (www.thelen-hykefuneralhome.com)
Skip's wish was to be cremated and have his ashes buried next to his wife in the Orangewood Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ.
Richard Morris (Skip) Boub was born in Redfield on July 25, 1932 to parents Kenneth Leo and Helen Esther (Morris) Boub. He joined a brother, Jerry Alan Boub, in the family. On August 17, 1956, Skip married Darlene Hoffman. They moved to Rapid City, SD, where their only child, David, was born. In 1959, after Skip graduated from the SD School of Mines, they moved to Phoenix, AZ. Skip worked for Motorola for many years.
In 2007, Skip and Darlene returned to Redfield. They enjoyed reuniting with family and friends and became members of the First Congregational United Church of Christ where they had been married. Skip watered flowers for the City of Redfield for a number of years which he really enjoyed. Due to declining health, they both entered the Golden Living Center in Redfield. Darlene passed away on February 15, 2016.
Skip loved golfing, fishing, spending time with his coffee buddies and watching the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Skip served in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1952. He transferred to the SD National Guard and was honorably discharged in 1953.
He is survived by nieces: Vicki (Bob) Warne and their family; Joni Boub and her family; both of Pierre, SD and Char Williamson of Redfield.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene; son David; and brother Jerry and sister-in-law, Winifred (Freddie).
