His memorial service will be live-streamed at 2:00 p.m. to the funeral home's website.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

Richard Robert Boyd was born July 30, 1937, in Spink County to Harold and Ethel (Larsen) Boyd.  When he was young, his father remarried and Hannah Ellingson became a welcome addition to their family.  In his first eight years of education, he attended a country school where he was the best, but only student in his class.  He started farming, which he loved, in 1954 when his father died. Dick graduated from Athol High School in 1956.

On August 6, 1960, Dick married Karon Christian in Redfield, SD.  They were blessed with two children, Joel and Rochelle.

Dick was fond of sports and enjoyed playing basketball in high school and softball for several years afterward.  He also enjoyed horseshoes, card games, and high school wrestling for many years.  He especially enjoyed his cousin and family's gathering each year for the Memorial Day holiday and hunting season.  He was a member of the Redfield Lions Club.

He loved his family and enjoyed watching his four grandchildren growing up.  He liked to travel and enjoyed spending a couple of weeks each year in New York with his daughter and family.

Richard is blessed to have shared his life for 61 years with his wife Karon; son Joel Boyd of Watertown, SD and his two sons Schuyler and Braden; and daughter Rochelle (Christian) Noboa of Purdys, NY and two daughters Kirsten and Sienna.  Richard is also survived by his sister Kaylene Bobo; step-sister Loretta Dietz; step-brother LeRoy Larson; and adopted kid Rubiann Fisher.

He is preceded in death by his parents; step-mother Hannah and husband Arnt Oien; and sister Darlene and husband Arnold Wold.
