Richard "Doc" William Baus was born November 16, 1932, at home in Potter County, SD to William and Gertrude (Flock) Baus.  He was educated at the Hoven School in Hoven, SD before attending South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD for two years.  His education continued at the University of Minnesota where he graduated in May 1956 with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine.

On June 11, 1955, Richard married Carole Schmidt at St. Rose of Lima church in St. Paul, MN.  They resided in various towns in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota before settling in Redfield in 1969.  Doc worked many years as a Veterinarian in South Dakota and later founded Animal Health Center in Redfield. He enjoyed spending time with family, traveling, writing Christmas poems, reading, crossword puzzles, and playing cards. Doc's most meaningful passion was helping those fighting addictions.  He never hesitated to make a 12-step call anywhere in the Midwest.

He made family gatherings a priority filled with laughter, friendly competition, and excitement. Doc was a family man whose family will treasure the kind and compassionate man he was. He will be remembered forever.
