Rita L. Vollmer, 67, of Mellette, SD, died October 14, 2011, near Mellette as a result of an automobile accident.

Her funeral will be Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brentford United Church of Christ. Reverend Jon Damaska will officiate. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery in Brentford.

A closed casket visitation will be Monday from 1-8:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. The family will be present from 4-6:00 p.m. www.thelenfuneralhome.com


Rita Louise Mitchell was born August 21, 1944, at Aberdeen, SD to Robert and Ann (Brunn) Mitchell. She graduated from Brentford High School and attended Northern State Teachers College for three years.
On July 2nd, 1965 Rita married William Vollmer in Brentford. They lived all their lives on their farm, south west of Brentford. After all their children were grown, Rita began working for the United States Post Office as a Post Master Reserve for seven years. She then went to work in Aberdeen at Herberger's, where she was the LancA´me Counter Manager. Rita then went back to work as the PMR at the Brentford Post Office where she was still working at the time of her death.
Rita loved spending time with her family, especially her two grandchildren. She spent a lot of time with friend's playing cards and visiting. She was active in the church and kept a close eye on her family even though they were full grown and living on their own.
She is survived by her husband Bill of Mellette; two sons: Kraig and Kevin both of Mellette, and her daughter Jennifer (Shane) Warren and their children Austin and Katelyn of Mitchell, SD. She is also survived by her five brothers: Richard (Marlene) Mitchell of Isanti, MN, Robert Mitchell Jr. of Brentford, J. Thomas Mitchell of Brentford, William (Vicki) Mitchell of Brentford and Brian Mitchell of Kansas City, MO; three sisters Mary(Marion) Fortin of Brentford, Julie (David) Reff of Clark, SD and Kerry (Joe) Thackery of Columbus, OH. Rita is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Rita was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
