Robert B. McCracken, 70, formerly of Frankfort, SD, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society - Canistota, in Canistota, SD. His memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society – Canistota. Inurnment, with military honors, will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Restlawn Cemetery in Huron, SD. Arrangements have been entrusted to Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield, SD. Robert Burgess McCracken was born February 24, 1947 in Fort Dodge, IA to Harold and Mary (Burgess) McCracken. Bob grew up on the family farm north of Gowrie, IA until 1960, when the family moved to a farm north of Forestburg, SD. Bob showed 4-H calves both in Iowa and South Dakota. He was baptized and confirmed in the Gowrie Methodist Church.

He married Kathleen O'Connor of Woonsocket, SD on June 11, 1967 at the Woonsocket Lutheran Church. Four children were born to this union, namely, Todd, Becky, Molly and Nick.

Bob served 20 years in the South Dakota National Guard. He was an avid reader and enjoyed reading about the history of our country. He loved trains as well as model trains.

Bob is survived by his children: Todd McCracken of Vermillion, SD; Molly McCracken of Sioux Falls, SD and Nick McCracken of Canton, SD. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Brian, Canaan, Alisha, Isiah, Lilly, Jessa and Israel; three siblings: John (Lois) McCracken of Avon Park, FL; Phil (Judy) McCracken of Ham Lake, MN and Florence (Boyden) Frericks of Redfield; and eight nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant daughter, Becky McCracken.
