Robert Sheridan, 91, of Redfield died Friday, March 28, 2008 at Golden Living Center in Redfield, SD.
His funeral will be Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. Pastor Stephen Perry will officiate. Burial will be in the Ashton Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday, from 2-8:00 p.m. with the family present from 4-6:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. (www.thelenfuneralhome.com)
Robert was born on May 24, 1916, on the family farm NE of Ashton, SD to Robert and Alta (Harrington) Sheridan. His mother passed away when he was two years old. His father later married Mae Lunney. On July 1, 1938 Robert married Daisy Mae DeYoung in Watertown SD. They made their home on the Trell Place and the Waller Place until 1943 when they moved to the family farm. Robert was a farmer all of his life, a tiller of the land. His passion was Caring for livestock. In 1974, Robert and Daisy Mae retired and moved to Ashton.
He had a great love for horses and could tell you many stories of horse trading with his father and uncle. He always had a big smile on his face. In his younger years, he loved flying and carried a private pilot license. Daisy passed away in November 1997 and Robert continued to live in their home in Ashton. He was honored in 2006 at Ashton's 125th celebration as being the oldest citizen in Ashton. In September 2007, because of health issues, he moved to the Golden Living Center in Redfield.
Robert is survived by three children, Alta (James) Smith of Brentford, SD, Russell (Shirley) Sheridan of Redfield, SD, and Delvin (Barb) Sheridan of Ashton, SD; seven grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; one half brother Laurence (DaVonna) Sheridan of Sioux Falls,SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Daisy and a half brother Richard who drowned shortly after graduating from high school.
