Obituary

Rodney Neil Hausvik, 87, of Turton, SD, died Friday, December 1, 2017 at Avera Mother Joseph Manor in Aberdeen, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Turton, SD. Reverend Michael Kelly will officiate. Burial with full military honors will follow at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Conde, SD.

Visitation will be Monday, December 4, 2017 from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Turton. Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. (www.thelen-hykefuneralhome.com)

Rodney Neil Hausvik was born July 30, 1930 in Spink County, near Turton, to Martin and Emma Olive (Hall) Hausvik. He attended elementary school in Turton before finishing his education in Conde. On April 30, 1954, Rodney married Sheila Anne Heath in Webster, SD. After they were married, Rodney and Sheila lived in Deadwood, SD. Rodney worked in the Homestake Gold Mine in Lead, SD, before returning to the Turton area, where they began farming northeast of Turton, where they raised their family.

Rodney was known for his love of John Deere tractors, driving Fords, and drinking Pepsi. He was a hardworking honest farmer, staying active on the farm, right up until the end. He mowed his yard along with helping mow the Conde Cemetery. He was a family man with a good sense of humor who enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. Rodney was very proud of his kids and grandkids, and enjoyed watching them in all their activities. He loved snowmobiling and watching the car races. He had many hobbies that included playing cards, watching westerns and gameshows, and reading. Rodney was also a Minnesota Twins baseball fan and enjoyed watching NBA basketball.

Rodney is survived by his sons: Mike (Donna) Hausvik of Conde; and Alan Hausvik of Turton; daughters: Kristi (Dan) Elbers of Forest Lake, MN; Patti (Brent) Schneider of Turton; and Shelli (Ryan) Felderman of Brandon, SD; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters: Avis Hansen of Sioux Falls, SD; and Clarice Seaman of Rapid City, SD; and many nieces and nephews.
