Roger H. Hekrdle, 76, of Redfield, SD, died Saturday, October 05, 2013 at Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller, SD. His funeral will be Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield with military rites. Roger was born December 22, 1936 in Redfield to Henry and Lillian (Zeigler) Hekrdle. Roger graduated from Redfield High School in 1954 and attended South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. He was studying to be an electrical engineer when he was inducted into the United States Army. After his discharge in 1961, he returned to the family farm. Roger farmed and raised livestock, on the family farm, with his brother Ronald, northeast of Redfield until his death. The Hekrdle farm was started in 1905 by Roger's grandfather.

Roger enjoyed driving around checking his crops and livestock.

Roger is survived by his brother Ronald Hekrdle of Redfield; his nieces and nephews: Tarara Hekrdle of Estelline, SD and her son Ty; Tam (Kris) Kolar of Canyon Creek, MT and their children Cade and Jase; Brett and Brad Hekrdle of Redfield; and Nona (Tyrone) Schenk of Maplewood, MN.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
