Roland "Rollie" L. Crook, 87, of Redfield, SD, died Thursday, October 21, 2010 at Avera St. Lukes Hospital in Aberdeen.

His funeral will be Monday, October 25, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Frankfort.

Roland was born March 1, 1923 on his family's farm in rural Frankfort, SD to Earl and Viola (Schaffer) Crook. He was raised in the Frankfort area and graduated from Redfield High School. Rollie married Vera Wiles at Frankfort on June 1, 1944, and started farming in the Frankfort area in 1944. A year later, they purchased a farm east of Frankfort, which they lived on and farmed until 1989, when he and Vera moved to Redfield, and built their house. Farming was Roland's passion and he was very particular about how things were done. He always made sure his equipment was in good running condition.

He will be remembered as being very good hearted and for his sense of humor. He was always willing to help anyone in need. One of the things he enjoyed most was going to Subway everyday and having coffee with his coffee buddies. Roland liked to trade cars often so he could have the newest features offered by the auto makers. He also liked flowers and plants.

Roland is survived by his wife, of sixty-three years, Vera of Redfield, two sons: Ronald of Redfield and Gary and his friend Donna Johnson of Bryant, SD; a daughter Dee Anna (Danny) Lake of Aberdeen; three sisters: Crystal Appel of Redfield, SD, Arlene Doak and Virginia (Lewis) Kirkland both of Yuma, AZ; two brothers: Lyle (Joan) Crook of Redfield, SD and Berwyn (LaVerne) Crook of Warminster, PA; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Alvin Crook and a sister Eudora Parker.
