Roy E. Pearson, 90, of Redfield, SD, died Monday, March 31, 2008 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. His funeral will be Thursday, April 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redfield. Reverend Tim Fugman will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield with full military rites. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-8:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Roy was born December 22, 1917 in Redfield to Fred and Augusta (Jackson) Pearson. He grew up in Redfield and graduated from Redfield High School in 1936. Roy started working at First National Bank in Redfield before entering the United States Army and serving during World War II from 1941-1944. After his discharge he married Ethel Bishop on May 29, 1949 in Redfield. Roy worked for First National Bank, later Norwest and Wells Fargo Bank, for forty-six years serving as Ag Loan Manager and later Vice President. Ethel died in 1986 and Roy spent many years with his special friend Polly Jane Robinson.
Roy was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Paul A. Schleher VFW Post #2755 and Clay Kiser American Legion Post #92.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, spending time at the lake and playing pool. He served on the Redfield City Council, American Legion Baseball Coach and is a member of the South Dakota Baseball Hall of Fame.
Roy is survived by his three granddaughters: Angela Pearson and her daughter Emma; Stephanie Pearson and her son Travis; and April (Michael) Orr. He is also survived by Jane Pearson and Richard Martsfield and other nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ethel in 1986, his son Scott in 1999, three sisters and his special friend Polly Jane Robinson.
