Obituary

Ruby M. Hollenbeck, 101, of Redfield, SD, died Saturday, March 23, 2013 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Ruby was cremated and her memorial service will be Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Eastern Star Home Chapel. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate and an Eastern Star service will follow. Ruby was born September 27, 1911 in Loyalton, SD to James and Mary (Tauscher) Manning. She attended country school and married Pat Hollenbeck on December 20, 1930 in Aberdeen. They lived on the farm near Northville before moving to Ashton in 1940. They had several businesses and Ruby was the town clerk and cemetery sexton for many years. Pat died in 1971 and Ruby continued living in Ashton, keeping track of everybody and everything happening in Ashton. In 1997, Ruby was the first person to move into the new Eastern Star Apartments.

She was a member of the Ashton and Redfield United Methodist Churches, Foster Grandparent for 25 years, Eastern Star member for over 70 years and a long time member of Royal Neighbors and Rebecah Lodge. She enjoyed playing Tripoli, watching Wheel of Fortune and following the Minnesota Twins. She helped set the tables and make the coffee at the Eastern Star lunchroom for many years.

Ruby is survived by her son LeRoy Hollenbeck of Palm Springs, CA; her daughter Arlene (Jim) Beardemphl of Roswell, NM; her grandchildren: Donna Harford of Redfield; Julie Ventsam of Lead, SD; Patti Francoli of Silverthorne, CO; Chrissie Francoli of Redfield; Tom Francoli of Watertown; Ken (Luann) Beardemphl of Artesia, NM and Scott (Sue) Beardemphl of Plano, TX; seven great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She got to see her great great granddaughter Cambria, who was born on March 15th. She is also survived by her sister Arletta "Babe" Dunker of Redfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Eilene, three step daughters: Doris, Bonnie and Geneva, four brothers: Fred, George, Ed and Leo and four sisters: Mary, Doll, Tut and Pauline.
